“Altar Egos”, starring Robert Amaya (Courageous) and Victoria Jackson (SNL), brings us hearty laughs when Pastor Bridges proposes a reinvention of the annual Christmas pageant. This catapults Mary Margaret, the pastor’s difficult step mother, right over the edge. Because the pageant, and the rest of the church for that matter, are subject to grouchy Mary Margaret, she calls for a boycott from the choir and a vote to send the pastor down the river. In his dire circumstance, Pastor Bridges recruits his theatrical but reluctant high school son Jack, and the daring duo, hoping to sway the votes of the choir and congregation, disguise themselves as Milo and Frank, two elderly eclectics.

The guffaws begin when Jack’s girlfriend’s mother, Babs, played hilariously by Victoria Jackson, has husband-on-the-radar and falls for Frank (Jack in disguise). The string of mistaken identities keeps the story rolling as Milo and Frank become chummy with the church members during Bible bingo, water aerobics and a knee-slappin’, Frank-rappin’ hoe down. Still, both Pastor Bridges and his stepmother hold a grudge. Finally, after Milo’s and Frank’s faces melt away in a Japanese restaurant charade, Pastor Bridges approaches his stepmother, asking forgiveness and surprisingly she too becomes a new person. This amusing film is simply a lot of fun, and all ages will enjoy the colorful characters, as well as the closing message of forgiveness.
